Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51M spectators in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this marks the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday memorable game averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase over the last finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series drew 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American average was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
